Debajit Ghosh is a trainee in the field of archaeology based in India. He has been trained in archaeological research through different kinds of perspectives. He has participated in a number of excavations and explorations across India. He has also expertise in blogging, leadership, and public speaking. He has been engaging in the domain of public awareness of heritage for more than 2 years. He has been writing blogs on the cultural heritage of ancient Egyptian Civilization for school children in the most possible simplified language. Apart from this, he has also been a Gender Champion in the university during his masters’ course where he has initiated interactive sessions of gender-related issues. Overall, he has a keen interest in heritage studies with a main focus on public interaction and awareness and aims at pursuing research in this field.

Session: Role of Private Sectors in the Digitization of Cultural Heritage

This session will evaluate the potentiality of the measures taken by some of the private organizations and freelancers in promoting the digitization of cultural heritage of India through their innovative initiatives. This session will mainly focus on three case studies on virtual heritage walk initiative, heritage blogging, and heritage podcasting respectively in the Indian context and try to understand the potentiality of these private sectors in the digitization of cultural heritage of India.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the need for non-governmental entities in the process of digitization of cultural heritage.
  • Familiarize with some of the practical examples of how private entities are contributing to this field, particularly in the Indian context.
  • Come up with different perspectives in this field which they can apply through their own domain to strengthen this process.
  • Understand the significance of local heritage through a broader viewpoint.
