A holistic and Integrative road-map to smart city

Smart city evolution has been going for over 2 decades. It started with a mono dimensional and technology led approach to what is now accepted as the quadruple-helix and integrative approach with citizen and city stakeholders involvement in decision making. Smart city in the past was referred to as a digital city, intelligent city and other descriptions. However, it is understood that in order to succeed in the deployment of smart city projects, the smart city is not just a technological city, but rather a sustainable smart city which aims to improve its quality of life, in all aspects using technology as the means to achieve it and not as the center. Mapping all solutions within a smart city in all layers: digital transformation, knowledge and data management and using smart infrastructure in an integrative and holistic way whilst taking a citizen centric view is the only way to succeed in the never ending process of becoming a smart city. The presentation discusses the evolution of smart city strategies, the success factors and the approach to a pragmatic deployment of smart city strategy.
